Livability Ranking: 9/10
Dundarave is nestled between Ambleside to the east and West Bay on the west, Dundarave can be easily spotted by its iconic condo towers rising from the ocean’s edge. Dundarave has it all. From amenity accessibility to fun community events and amazing fine dining.
Arts, Community & Family
Walk east on Marine Drive two blocks and you’ll find the West Vancouver Recreation Centre. You can’t miss the spectacular architecture on this building which is complete with Aquatic Centre (full length lap pool & waterslide!), community rooms, gymnasiums, fitness centre and more.
Seeking some outdoor fun for the family? Stroll down to Dundarave Park and pier. This part of the beach features a playground (equipped with wading pool for the kids), lifeguarded sandy beach section, and was the original point of entry to the village for ferries before Lions Gate bridge was constructed!
The Park also hosts a variety of community events throughout the year. Don’t miss Dundarave’s, “Festival of Lights,” an enchanting Christmas tree light show with participation from local businesses and philanthropists. This is also an amazing area to view Vancouver’s fireworks festival, and on Canada Day, hosts it’s own fireworks display just off the beach.
Food and Amenities
Dundarave is well known as West Vancouver’s dining destination. A weekday afternoon is the perfect occasion to stroll through the village and sip a latte at Delany’s Coffee House to go along with a sweet treat from Temper Chocolate or the Truffle House.
If you fancy fine dining in the evening you can’t beat the critically acclaimed Feast Neighbourhood Table. Looking for a view with your meal? Make sure to check out The Beach House, situated right at the water at the start of the Seawall – and don’t skimp on the cocktails!
Finally, I highly recommend an evening digestif at the Red Lion, a fabulous British Pub with an elegant rounded bar and cozy fireplace seating.
Schools
Looking for childcare? Dundarave’s, “Preschool by the Sea,” has been operating since 1949. École Pauline Johnson Elementary School offers a fantastic French immersion program, and Irwin Park Elementary school sits right above the business district. If you’re seeking an independant option, Collingwood’s Wentworth campus is a short drive up the hill.
West Vancouver High School, Sentinel Secondary and Rockridge Secondary are all great public high school school options within a short commute. If you’re seeking an amazing independent school, Mulgrave sits just above the highway and offers incredible ocean views along with it’s world class IB education.
Accessibility
For sunsets and evening walks you can’t beat Dundarave. Head east on the Centennial Seawalk for a gorgeous 2km beach-front walk over to neighbouring Ambleside Village, or head west and walk Vancouver’s Golden Mile – an affluent stretch of beautiful West Vancouver ocean-view mansions.
You also won’t have to walk far for medical needs in Dundarave. With a world class dentist, chiropractic centre, medical clinic and animal hospital, all your needs will be taken care of.
